5/1/2021 Shawano Speedway | 4th Place Feature Finish | Two Race Incidents

Finally, a night with nice weather.  Tonight my nephew, Brayden, drew a 99 for us.  This put us starting last in the heat race.  I got caught up in a small fender bender on the first lap. I did what I did to try to miss it but still got caught up in it, a little bit. So, that wasn't great. Feel bad we collected some other cars in that mess.  We went back green, I restarted seventh.  I ended up getting the fourth, which is all we needed. The way they run the heats at Shawano is, you just have to get to the top four to get into the invert.  I made the invert, which put us starting 4th in the feature. We got the car all put back together. We straightened out the sheet metal, put some tires on, made a few small setup changes and added some fuel to get us ready for the feature. 

Overall, we had a pretty good night, started fourth. I tried to run the top in the early part of the race just because that's where the mods are running.   I figured there might have been something there but got passed by a couple cars. Once we got down to the bottom, the car was really good. I was able to pass a couple guys back, getting up to third. We had a caution, like lap, eight or lap nine, I had to restart on the outside. I tried to get down as quick as I could. I went into turn three a little bit too hard and blasted through the bottom line that I was running there. I got passed by Mike Mullen and Ron Berna. I was able to get back by Berna. Then just kind of just rode behind Nick, Troy, and Mike. Congrats to Nick on the win, really fast, like always.

On the last lap, I wasn't sure how close Berna was to where I was, so I didn't want to just ride around behind the lap car. I thought about going to the outside,  but I didn’t want to leave the rubber, so I got back down. I was just gonna follow him through three and four, and he kind of slipped up just a little bit, and I thought I could squeeze through it and we just kind of came to the same point of the racetrack and I got pushed into the tire a little bit. Overall it wasn't that big of a deal. I got some tire marks on the car, but overall it was a pretty good night.
